Even in context when I know what letter it ought to be, the C just does not look enough like a C, to me. Maybe open the aperture a little more? Right now the cap O has just as much an opening.1 -

Back in the day, Adobe used to ship fonts with all the alternates also PUA-encoded, and I never saw such a complaint. But at the same time, very few people used that mechanism to access those glyphs.…3 -
